Warranty & Guarantee

Last updated: 15 September 2026

Every product we sell, whether new, certified refurbished, pre-owned or open box, is genuine stock, graded honestly, and backed by a warranty you can actually use. This page explains what’s covered, for how long, and how to claim.

Warranty by condition

The warranty period for each product is shown on its product page, and follows the condition it’s sold in:

ConditionWarrantyWhat it means
New2 yearsSealed, unused stock from the manufacturer or an authorised distributor.
Open Box2 yearsUnused, manufacturer-condition stock whose retail packaging has been opened, so it carries the same coverage as New.
Certified Refurbished12 monthsProfessionally restored and tested, with a new battery fitted where needed, wiped and reboxed.
Pre-owned6 monthsGraded honestly and tested end to end before listing.

These are the warranty periods we voluntarily stand behind as part of the Airlectronics Guarantee, on top of (not instead of) your statutory rights below.

Your statutory rights (Consumer Protection Act)

Separately from the table above, section 56 of the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 gives every consumer an implied warranty of quality: goods must be reasonably suitable for their intended purpose, of good quality, free of defects, safe, and durable. If a product fails to meet this standard and develops a defect within 6 months of delivery, you may, at your choice, ask us to:

  • Repair the product, at no charge; or
  • Replace it with an identical or reasonably equivalent product; or
  • Refund you the price you paid.

If we repair a product under this warranty and the same problem happens again within 3 months of that repair, you can require us to either replace it or refund you, again at your choice. This statutory right applies regardless of the condition a product was sold in (including pre-owned items), and doesn’t depend on any warranty card or registration; it exists in law. It does not apply to defects caused by normal wear and tear, misuse, unauthorised repairs or modifications, or failure to follow the product’s instructions.

How the two work together

For the first 6 months after delivery, every product, regardless of condition, is covered by the CPA’s implied warranty described above. After that 6-month mark, New and Open Box items continue to be covered by our voluntary 2-year warranty, and Certified Refurbished items continue to be covered up to the 12-month mark. Pre-owned items’ warranty period generally lines up with the CPA’s own 6-month window.

What’s not covered

Like any warranty, ours doesn’t cover:

  • Accidental damage, liquid damage, or damage from misuse or neglect;
  • Normal wear and tear (e.g. battery capacity naturally declining over time, cosmetic marks on a pre-owned item that were disclosed at the time of sale);
  • Damage caused by unauthorised repairs, modifications, or use of non-approved parts or chargers;
  • Consumables (cables, batteries sold as consumables, etc.) beyond their normal expected lifespan.

How to claim

Warranty claims go through the same request flow as returns:

  1. Go to My Account → Orders, find the order, and select Request a Return.
  2. Choose “Item is faulty / not working” as the reason, describe the fault, and add a photo or short video if you can.
  3. Our team reviews the claim, typically within 2 business days, and confirms whether it’s a repair, a replacement, or a refund.

Full detail on the return/collection process itself is on our Delivery & Returns Policy page.
